Tour description:
We start in "Kreuzberg 36" on the Oberbaum bridge with a view of the monumental sculpture made of perforated aluminum by the US artist Jonathan Borofsky. The former urinal under the railway tracks of the Schlesisches Tor railway station has achieved cult status as a burger restaurant. We walk along Köpenicker Straße to the beach bar of the Sage restaurant. We continue to the artists house Bethanien on Mariannenplatz, a center for modern visual arts with exhibitions, workshops and an artist-in-residence program. Then we visit the market hall number nine, which celebrates a "Street Food Thursday" every week from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. Lausitzer Platz is close to here. On May 1, 1987, a street festival there became the starting point for the infamous Kreuzberg May riots. We proceed to Heinrichplatz and what is probably the most famous street in Kreuzberg: Oranienstrasse.
Now we change to "Kreuberg 61". We cross Kottbusser square (Kotti) towards Landwehrkanal. Along the Böcklerpark we arrive Baerwaldstrasse and a few minutes later we reach the market hall on Marheinekplatz and the colorful and bustling Bergamnstrasse, where our tour ends a little later at Viktoriapark.
Recommendation:
This is a long distances walk. We recommend you to buy a day ticket Berlin AB for public transportation. This tour is much easier by bike and in good weather conditions.
